Manincor

Crafted by hand,
imbued with heart,
crowned in glory.

Everyone who visits our winery is greeted by the sight of the splendid Manincor family coat of arms on the front of the building. The heart is in the right place here.

Take a close look, and you will see a hand holding up a heart – a symbol of values that are especially important in challenging times. The coat of arms is more than just an emblem: it is our dominant theme. We act according to the principle of trust sealed by a handshake, deriving from a sincerity that comes from the heart and crowned by a glass of unadulterated wine.

That explains the names we have chosen for our wine lines: hand and heart, and the family crown.

HAND stands for our wines for everyday drinking. They are the product of honest craftsmanship – the basis of all activities in the vineyard and cellar. Biodynamic winegrowing is always about working by hand.

This dedication begins in winter: Each of our 270,000 vines is pruned individually in keeping with its natural characteristics using manual pruning shears, not electric ones.

When shoot growth sets in in spring, we break out about two thirds of the young shoots by hand (in a process known as “suckering”). As soon as the remaining shoots have reached a certain length, we carefully insert them between the wires – a delicate operation as they are still soft and fragile. When the vines flower, we remove individual leaves in the area of the inflorescence in order to provide the developing grape clusters with optimum ventilation and light. The lateral shoots are also carefully clipped to open up the canopy and prevent fungal attack. This expert manual work gives our grapes just the right balance between adequate protection from the sun and sufficient light for perfect ripeness.

The lettering on our HAND wines is dark brown like the humus in our soils – symbolizing that fact that our work is literally rooted in the earth.

HEART stands for wines in the Manincor range that are an expression of our heart and soul. The names of these wines are colored red as an indication of the passion that goes into them. The lettering symbolizes the high quality of either single site wines or cuvées with names associated with our family.

We take resolute decisions in our quest for best quality results. Passion and attention to detail are manifested in these wines, which are made to radiate elegance and complexity every year.

The labels of our CROWN wines are in gold. We only make these wines when the vintage is perfect. The crown commemorates our family’s elevation to the rank of count by the Habsburgs, an honor awarded for outstanding service to the monarchy.

The grapes for these wines come from the oldest vines, from our best vineyards with the lowest yields and the best quality for the vintage. The grapes are harvested very selectively and only go into this line in very good years. This means there may be no CROWN vintage from time to time – proof of our uncompromising commitment to excellence.
